How Evangelicals Have Shifted in Public Opinion on Same-Sex Marriage | Christianity Today | A Magazine of Evangelical Conviction
The survey data presented in this article and in other places is stunning and alarming. It seems that the Church has done a good job of keeping its flock decidedly against Evolution and for a Creator (as other surveys demonstrate) but we have failed to communicate the same kind of conviction regarding marriage. In both areas our kids are assaulted with the secular worldview in the nation's public schools and in the public arena at large yet we have relative success in one and outright failure in the other to pass this conviction on from one generation to the next.

Disclaimer: some of the survey results out about support for Creationism vs. support for Evolution provide data on the broad category of Christian rather than whether the self-identified Christian would consider themselves born again or conservative vs. liberal in their theology.
Speaking as a pastor, I think that there is a bit more hesitance, dare I say fear, to speak on homosexuality/lesbianism due to the political climate. Evolution vs. Creationism is less personal. With the GLBT agenda, though there is strong opposition, there is also the sense that we are dealing with people rather than just an intellectual argument. Perhaps more education needs to be done as to how to address the issue in a sensitive yet thought-provoking way while remaining true to the Scriptures.
