Crisis Pregnancy Centers, Our Under-funded Missionaries on the Front-lines of the Pro-Life Cause

On Thursday, January 17 of this year I was privileged to have an interview with the Executive Director of ChoiceOne Pregnancy and Sexual Health Resource Centers. ChoiceOne has offices in Lawrenceville, New Jersey and in Levittown, PA.  The ministry began over 30 years ago in New Jersey by evangelical pastors as a reaction to the political event of the Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision. As stated on their website, the Gospel is central . Their mission is “to act as a positive change agent in the areas of human sexuality, family unity, and pregnancy; to provide women and girls along with their partners, practical assistance and positive alternatives to abortion; as well as to provide STD screening, STD support counseling, abstinence training/school-church programs, bereavement counseling, parenting classes, relationship counseling, family counseling, father’s program, GED, employment training, medical assistance, and referrals for housing and adoption.” Their vision “is to...

The Power of Crumbs (Matthew 15:21-28)

In Matthew 15 , Jesus traveled to the area of Tyre and Sidon. While there, a woman of that region, a non-Jewish woman, began to yell. It wasn’t a taunt. It wasn’t a mockery or anti-Semitic in nature. Instead, it was a cry for help. “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” Jesus’ reaction was as dumb-founding as her cry for help. He seemed to ignore her. Not a word of reply came from him as He journeyed on. And she was hard to ignore. Disgusted, the disciples pleaded with Jesus to say something. “Send that annoying Gentile woman away,” they urged (my expanded translation). Perhaps Jesus chuckled on the inside as a private conversation went on between our Heavenly Father and our Lord. “Son, you know what to do.” “Yes, Father, I cannot wait to see the expression on the disciples’ faces. To you be the glory, Father.” So Jesus finally did answer her: “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Desperately, the woman c...

You Too Can Be Unstoppable: A Review of Nick Vujicic’s Book

Image
Nick Vujicic’s story is a fascinating one.  You may have wondered how a man with an Eastern European name would have an Australian accent.  To find out, you will have to read the book or do the research.  Come on, you don’t want me to spoil the fun, do you? Born without arms or legs, Nick’s life began in a very emotional way.  However, his parents, though surprised by their son’s disabilities, encouraged him to focus on something quite different than his limitations.  Nick came to call them disabilities with a G and an o in front of them; God-abilities.  This is the story of a man who faced tremendous hurdles from the moment he was born, was bullied and even contemplated suicide but who today has become the epitome of an overcomer by the grace of God and his faith in God put into action.  As you go through the book you will find not only his story but the story of so many others who did incredible things by a faith put into action.  Re...

A Young Man Gone with Friends and Family Grieving -- a Headline that Has Become All Too Common

Image
I was checking out the Facebook page of the guy who lost his life on the motorcycle on Woodburne Road in Levittown, PA  on January 6, 2013. Video News: Fatal Motorcycle Crash, Middletown According to one of his posts, in May of last year he had a spin out doing an excessive amount of speed (I consider 70 to be excessive) and remarked that he was almost hurt. His friends and family urged him to be careful, one even saying he should sell that bike. Police stated that he owned a Yamaha R6 Another stated, "Dude, you're gonna get yourself killed!" Well, he did die and I feel bad for him being so young (20 years old) and also for his friends and family who grieve over his loss. Young people, you are not bullet-proof; asphalt doesn't give way to flesh but the other way around. Please do be careful and if you think of it, pray for this young man's loved ones. They certainly do need it. -- Since we don't know how long any of us has on this Earth, consider again the cla...

Abortion Resources and Info. Leading up to the 40th Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

Check back from time-to-time as I will seek to expand on this 40th Anniversary Roe v. Wade posting See a video of Norma McCorvey , the woman caught in the fight that made abortion legal in 1973.  She never had an abortion and she is now a pro-life advocate Find a crisis-pregnancy center near you!   Free book by R.C. Sproul: A bortion: A Rational Look at an Emotional Issue This January 23rd marks 40 years since Roe v. Wade. Political involvement has gotten us nowhere has been my take on this awful anniversary. I urge people to operate at the grassroots, one woman/teen or young couple at a time. Political policy has failed us and now it is time to redouble our efforts to help those with crisis pregnancies make the right choice and help the crisis pregnancy centers that are the front-lines of this battle for the hearts and minds of potential parents and of the lives of their unborn offspring. TIME takes another view: Has The Fight For Abortion Rights Been Lost?...

Following God, Trusting God, No Matter What -- A Review of Though None Go With Me (DVD)

Image
Though none go with me, still I will follow Though none go with me, still I will follow Though none go with me, still I will follow No turning back, No turning back You might recognize the name Jerry Jenkins from The Left Behind Series.  My wife and I have been fans since before that famous series.  And this movie adapted from Jerry Jenkins' novel by the same name does not disappoint. It is the story of Elizabeth Leroy, a doctor's daughter, who wants out of a small town.  An associate minister comes to town and she is taken by him.  The story has twists and turns that test Elizabeth's faith severely.   Though None Go With Me's themes include enduring faith, a resilient spirit and love that lasts a lifetime. I cannot say enough about this film.  Get it, watch it and have some tissues handy.  I don't think you will regret it.

A Book Every Christian Should Read: Part History, Part Bible Study, Part Prophecy

Image
Dr. Renald Showers reviews the history of God's covenant with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants.  He dives into what God said, where He said it, how it was re-iterated and what it meant.  This study is critically important for each Christian to review from the biblical text.  Without it, we are left to our own devices and "wisdom" as to ascertain Israel's place in the world and in our theology.  Thankfully, Showers does a rather thorough treatment of this topic. Also, Showers summarizes Church history and delivers a shocking expose' of how in the name of Christ, Jews have been repeatedly slaughtered, scattered, and forced to convert to Christianity.  Within the pages of this book, the author shows how, in his opinion, the doctrine of what has been called Supersessionism, or  Replacement Theology, has been acted upon to the detriment of Jewish lives, their peaceful existence and their future.  As he does so, Showers argues for the con...
