The Life and Passing of the Iron Lady and the Coming of the Iron Man

Margaret Thatcher was the only woman to serve as British prime minister and she is also the longest serving prime minister of the U.K. in the last century.  Her “reign” was from 1979 to 1990.  She died after suffering a stroke at the age of 87.  This was preceded by several small strokes and dementia over the last several years.

Her political soul mate, if you will, was Ronald Wilson Reagan, the 40th president of the United States.  Not only did they serve parallel terms from 1981-1989 but they also shared an economic philosophy, a passion against communism in general and the Soviet Union in particular and an ability to reshape   events at home and abroad.  Together they took on the Soviet Bloc, which Reagan referred to as “the Evil Empire.”

My prayer is that in an ever more dangerous world, that the U.S. can find another “Iron Lady,” or man for that matter, who can stand with us and accomplish great things.  However, as great as she was and influential for good, her accomplishments pale in comparison to the one great leader for whom we are waiting, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible says that “This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven” Acts 1:11 (NKJV).   Revelation 19 predicts that Jesus will defeat this world’s end-time Evil Empire by force and reign with a “rod of iron.”  He will be the “Iron Man” that will reign forever and the only one who can be and will be the “prince of Peace” (see Isaiah 9:6).   Even so, come Lord Jesus!
