Timothy was young at the time that he encountered the Apostle Paul ( 1 Tim. 4:12 ).  Since they themselves had "genuine faith," Eunice, Timothy's mother, and Lois, his grandmother, imparted spiritual truth to Timothy from his childhood ( 2  Tim. 1:5 ;   3:14, 15 ).  He had a Greek father ( Acts 16:1-3 ) who did not have a decidedly positive spiritual impact on him, if one could boldly ascertain that from both what is said in Scripture and what is not said, especially in contrast to his mom and grandmom.  By the beginning of the second missionary journey, Timothy accompanied Paul and ministered alongside the apostle (see:   Acts 16 ; 2 Timothy  3:14, 15 ). Later, Timothy represented the apostle to Thessalonica ( 1 Th. 3:1-2 ) Corinth ( 1 Cor. 4:17 ) and even Ephesus ( 1 Timothy 1:2-4 ).  As his mentor, Paul took special interest in young Timothy and even wrote two letters to him which we have today as part of the New Testament....

Gospel Centered Marriage is a great book that can be read in a short period of time. In it, Pastor John Stange reviews the main biblical passages on marriage and concentrates on the concept of it depicting the relationship between Christ and His Bride, the Church. There is practical, easy-to-read and understand wisdom. I think I just might make this required reading for future pre-marital counseling. If you are looking toward marriage or if you have experienced some bumps in the road of your matrimony, pick this book up. You won't regret it. There is quite a fascinating juxtaposition of Holy Week and an issue being weighed by the Supreme Court. A former IBM programmer is asking the Supreme Court to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act which passed by overwhelming margins in both houses of Congress in 1996 with Bill Clinton signing the act into law (incidentally, he is now against it).
