Check out what is said about this book by a Rutgers prof:
"Rauser's dialogue brings the best tools of philosophical thinking within the reach of thoughtful believers and skeptics alike. His representative in the conversation knows when to stick to his guns, and when to admit to uncertainty and fallibility. His atheist counterpart is no straw man--he knows his Dawkins, Dennett and Hitchens. Rauser has the philosophical chops to cut through a lot of rhetorical nonsense, but he also has the intellectual honesty to face up to the genuine difficulties confronting his faith. This enjoyable book is a model of candid, winsome, thought-provoking apologetics." (Dean Zimmerman, professor of philosophy, Rutgers University)

Ministries Destroyed and Some Counsel to Avoid It, Martyr Stories and Perspective on Complaints, Middle East Stories and an Answer to the Strange Fire Conference

Lives Destroyed
by Jason Helopoulos • October 24, 2013
Sin is our enemy. Don't entertain it, play with it, be gentle with it, ignore it, or feed it. Its desire is nothing more than our very destruction. Let us seek, by the power of Christ and the strength of the Spirit, to inflict blow after blow upon it rather than it upon us.

Elder of GFA-supported Believers Church Brutally Murdered While Praying

How Can I Complain? Next time you are tempted to complain, consider these words from a persecuted brother in Christ "How can I complain about my suffering when my brothers and sisters are paying a high price for their faith all over the world? I recently heard about many people killed in front of a church in Pakistan. I also heard a young sister in Christ sharing about how she lost her family for the sake of the Gospel and still she is willing to return to share the good news."

"How can I complain about my suffering when our dear brother Haik gave his life and was killed wi…

Turning Depression Upside Down: a Review of Turning Your Down into Up

Image
Gregory Jantz and Ann McMurray emphasize a whole-person approach to depression. Not everyone, they
state, comes to depression from the same root issues. Therefore, various routes to recovery are needed, not one size fits all.

The five areas of concentration in the whole-person approach identified by the authors are emotional, environmental, relational, physical and spiritual. They make a claim that this method has a 90% success rate. If true, that is quite remarkable and should encourage the average person struggling with depression to seek the wisdom found in this book.

A variety of helps are given by Jantz and McMurray. They cover issues such as relationships that may drain or fill, relational back stories that feed negative self-talk, nutrition and exercise concerns that can exasperate or lengthen depression and on and on. Self-analysis symptoms are listed for the reader to get a grasp as to if this area or   that one is relevant to their individual struggle with depression…

You Can Do This! A Devotional from Hebrews 10:32-39

Up to this point, the writer of Hebrews has been hitting hard on some who were once with these Jewish Christians but had since departed.  To get an idea of the context, the writer (some say Paul, others an associate of Paul) addressed Jews who had converted to Christ from Judaism and were spread out throughout the region.  Their dispersal was due to the persecution they experienced.

A reading of Hebrews makes it clear that there was a strong temptation to end the persecution by going back to the Law.  This is strongly discouraged by the writer and to do so is evidence, he asserted, that the person wasn't truly redeemed.  He demonstrated that Christ is far better than the prophets, angels, Moses, Joshua, Aaron and the priesthood.  Throughout the book are warnings interwoven with the general points of the epistle.
Perhaps all of the negative talk on those who dispersed, led the author by the Spirit to want to assure his readers that they were not like those who departed.  In chap…

I'm not sure if you heard the story about Floyd and Margaret.  Married for 68 years, they lived on a farm in the state of Washington and cared for several animals.    They were well-liked members of  Elk Community Church.  The story is told that when Floyd began to have trouble pushing the lawnmower, Margaret pushed it with him (see picture).

In time, Margaret developed Alzheimer's and Floyd was known to take great care of her.  Floyd was often heard declaring how pretty his Margaret was.  A friend recalled Floyd encouraging him to kiss and hug his wife daily just as Floyd was accustomed to doing.

Floyd and Margaret, who spent so much time together, loving one another, l…

The Parable of the Pizza Order (or at least the moral of the story that it presented to me)

Image
The local Papa John's had a deal on large pizzas that I wanted to take advantage of. So, I tried online but the deal wasn't offered there. Then I tried calling and was put on hold . . . quite a few minutes later, I hung up. Then I called them again and got a busy signal. I had smooth sailing with Domino's online with a great deal. Papa John's lost my business because they weren't available.

I wonder how many times that is true of our churches? Are we available or do we put people on hold? Do people sense a busy signal or perhaps too many hoops to go through or do they get our attention?

May we be like our Master:

“So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened." Luke 11:9-10 (NKJV)

"If we had denied our faith, he never would have come to know Jesus"

Hear how God reached Muslims in the name of Jesus despite the obstacles. And also, how God used persecution against Pastor Saeed and Naghmeh Abedini to witness of Jesus to the UN, in Iran and around the world.

“God had us in that interrogation room for that particular man,” Naghmeh said. “If we had denied our faith, he never would have come to know Jesus.”

What Abbas Missed in His UN Speech by Khaled Abu Toameh
October 2, 2013 at 5:00 am

For the Palestinian Authority leadership, the security fence in the West Bank, which has put an end to suicide bombings, is more problematic than the killing and displacement of thousands of Palestinians in Syria.

Not surprisingly, Abbas did not condemn any of the Arab countries for mistreating and humiliating Palestinians, especially in recent years.

So what if the Egyptian authorities are shooting and killing Palestinian refugees fleeing Syria? So what if the Lebanese authorities are imposing severe restrictions on the entry of Palestinian refugees? So what if Palestinians are being killed every day in Syria by the forces of Bashar al-Assad and the "rebels?"

Abbas does not seem to have time to talk about the suffering of his people at the hands of Arab governments and terror groups.

‘Reformation Project’ Recruits Volunteers Nationwide to Influence Churches to Embrace Homosexuality
Disturbing story that shows the passion of the other side. May we be as passionate about God's Word and the Gospel. A plain reading of the Old and New Testaments reveals God's design for marriage and sexuality.  Matthew Vines and others can deny the obvious but their impact on others depends on the hearers' willingness to believe Scripture or believe Vines.
