Broken Heart on Hold: Surviving Separation $1.99 on Kindle
This is a book from a woman who went through the pain of separation and eventually saw her marriage healed. One reviewer stated that this book neither was pro-divorce or stay together but ministers to women in their present pain.

Check out the reviews for yourself before purchasing. It looks like a very helpful book for those who are separated or in the midst of deep, marital pain.

Autopsy Inconclusive: A Review of The Autopsy of a Deceased Church by Thom Rainer

I guess that this book should be easy for me to review. I am a fan, so to speak, of Mr. Rainer. After having read and reviewed many books, there are only two that I use in pastoral ministry, one of which is his earlier work, I Am a Church Member. I highly recommend that for pastors and leaders who are looking at adding new members to their church. My review of I Am a Church Member can be found here.

Let me start by describing the book. Like some volumes that came out about ten years ago, Autopsy of a Deceased Church is a little book with a potentially big impact. It is an inexpensive hardback consisting of 102 pages. The book is an easy read. It is also very practical.

I guess my quandary is its audience. Those who need it most probably wouldn’t pick it up. They are the church killers. Their work is amply shown in the pages of this volume. They are territorial, carnal, “it’s my church” kind of people. What is sad is that, in my experience at least, these people who are su…

Eye on Iraq: Are We Witnessing the Start of a Shiite-Sunni Regional War?

Who Are They?

The Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIS) was established from an al-Qaeda linked group in Iraq. Consisting of 3,000-5,000 fighters, this militant army has been led by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who is identified as a battlefield commander and tactician. A large swath of Syrian territory in the eastern portion of the country is under their control. Bases were established by the ISIS in the western desert of Iraq from which to wage war in Syria. The jihadists had already subdued Ramadi and Fallujah and by Wednesday, June 11, had easily taken Mosul (it’s greatest triumph yet) and Tikrit (Saddam Hussein’s hometown).

What Happened?

The New York Times reports that army commanders from the era of Saddam Hussein joined forces with ISIS to defeat the Shiite-led Iraqi government. Many of Saddam’s senior officers are reported to have come from Mosul. Inexplicably, yet perhaps a related event, Iraqi forces fled the fight in Mosul, abandoning equipment and uniforms. Individual repor…

Lock This One Up and Throw Away the Key -- A Review of The Holy Land Key

The Holy Land Key is a book by Ray Bentley, the founding pastor of Maranatha Chapel near San Diego, Calif. Overall, I found the book very hard to get through. It doesn’t make for smooth reading. Beyond that, I have my issues with Bentley’s work that I will summarize here.

Bentley’s belief in the Blood Moons’ prophecy craze is astonishing. A good rebuttal is Mark Hitchcock’s Blood Moons Rising that I reviewed as well. Suffice it to say that the blood moons are taken out of context of the Scripture as other signs are ignored or minimized in the very same prophecies cited. In addition, some of the “signs” of the historical blood moons occur AFTER the events they supposedly signify (rendering them useless as signs). See Mark Hitchcock’s work for some other reasons to reject the blood moons’ prophetic hypothesis.

The author seems to have a naiveté when it comes to Palestinian Christians. One of the Palestinian believers he spoke to refers to the founding of Israel as the day of ca…
