Will Russia Invade Ukraine? Moldova? What Should We Believe When Actions and Words Conflict?

State Of War An article from the Kyiv (Kiev) Post March 28, 2014, 12:37 a.m. | Ukraine — by Christopher J. Miller , Mark Rachkevych Picture's description: Ukraine’s new National Guard trains on March 17. The nation is scrambling to mobilize 40,000 National Guard and reserve members to bolster a Defense Ministry with 180,000 personnel. Fears are high of a Russian invasion of Ukraine’s mainland, following its invasion and annexation of the Crimean peninsula. As you can see from this image from the article "State of War," Russian military units surround Ukraine from the North, South and East.        See expandable image from source The article states in part:  Estimates of Russian troops on war footing vary, from the West’s estimates of more than 30,000 to the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council’s calculations of 100,000 soldiers ready to strike. There are, in addition, 700 tanks and armed personnel carriers staging near the east

Obama Says Putin Acting Out of Weakness, Ukrainian Defense Minister Sacked, Gingrich Has Putin Right, What NATO May Need to Do

03/27/14 Update:   Now McCain insults Russia and Putin Beacon2Light: I don't think it's terribly smart to say that Putin is acting out of weakness (Obama) or to say that Russia is no more than a gas station (McCain).  This invites further aggression.  Putin may wish to show who is weak and it won't be him/show what a "gas station masquerading as a country" can do.  It would be better to show resolve and seek to lower aggression through a process of peace through strength (Reagan).  Where are NATO troops mobilized in NATO countries with shared borders with Ukraine? Those troops could be reduced as Russian ones are reduced on the opposite border with Ukraine. But alas, it's far better that we forbid Putin's inner circle from visiting the Grand Canyon or Disney World.  That will fix them (sarcasm).   US intel: More indications than ever Russia could invade Ukraine New U.S. intelligence assessments say there are more indications than ever that Russia co

Fetal Remains Used to Heat UK Hospitals, Ebook Deal on the Deity of Jesus

A couple of decades ago, I remember seeing a bumper sticker:  "American abortion, Hitler would've loved it" Well, perhaps the maker of that bumper sticker or the originator of that quote wasn't too far off. This story isn't about America but it is what is done with fetuses in UK hospitals.   There are those who say that the world is getting better.  Things like what Hitler did are an aberration, they claim.  However, stories like this wake us up to the fact that people are sinners in need of a Savior and the only way to get peace on Earth, goodwill to men is through the Prince of Peace, the Lord Jesus.  I could provide countless other examples from the world at large but unless you live in a shell, you know many of them. Even so, come Lord Jesus! Aborted babies incinerated to heat UK hospitals The remains of more than 15,000 babies were incinerated as 'clinical waste' by hospitals in Britain with some used in 'waste to energy' pla

A Paradox of Salvation: God Chose Us AND We Chose Him

What is a Paradox? A paradox is a statement that apparently contradicts itself and yet might be true. The Bible has paradoxes in it due to the fact that our understanding is limited. Remember, Christ often explained spiritual truths that were difficult to understand by tying them to physical things that His followers did understand (like a fig tree or a grape vine). Since God is unlimited in understanding and unfathomable by us mortals, it is only logical to expect that things will appear to us to be paradoxes (seemingly self-contradictory but nevertheless true). What Are the Paradoxes We Will Discuss? 1) God Chose Us and We Chose Him 2) Our Salvation is Free and It is Very Costly 3) Jesus is 100% God and 100% Man God Chose Us  Elect — a person or group chosen by God for special favor and for the rendering of special service to Him. ( Nelson’s New Ill. Bible Dic. ) Election — the gracious and free act of God by which He calls those who become part o

Ukraine fears Russia 'ready to attack' "The aim of Putin is not Crimea but all of Ukraine... His troops massed at the border are ready to attack at any moment," Ukraine's National Security and Defence Council chief Andriy Parubiy told a mass unity rally in Kiev. Foreign Minister Andriy Deshchytsya reaffirmed that message in an interview broadcast on Sunday on a top US political talk show. "We do not know what Putin has in his mind and what would be his decision. That's why this situation is becoming even more explosive than it used to be a week ago," Deshchytsya told ABC's "This Week". Crimea's Russia-backed prime minister Sergei Aksyonov said in an impassioned address he posted on Facebook and read out on local TV that Crimea began facing a "sad fate" the moment three months of deadly protests involving a mix of nationalist and pro-Western forces toppled the pro-Kremlin regime in Kiev. "But we resisted and won! Our

How People Change Timothy S. Lane and Paul David Tripp Jesus' work on the cross targets our hearts, our core desires and motivations, and when our hearts change, our behavior changes. It's amazing to watch people who once seemed stuck in a pattern of words, choices, and behaviors start living in a new way as Christ changes their hearts. Update: How People Change is no longer free but still a great deal at $3.74 (as of 03/22/14) Also, check out Lost in the Middle by Paul David Tripp for $1.99 about mid-life and God's grace Broken-Down House  by Paul David Tripp for $1.99 Sin has ravaged the house that God created. This world sits slumped, disheveled, and in pain, groaning for the restoration that can only be accomplished by the hands of him who built it in the first place. The bad news is that you and I are living right in the middle of the restoration process. The good news is that the divine Builder will not relent until everything about his house is made totall

A Review of The Faith of Demons by Rick Muchewicz

Image
I met Rick Muchewicz on Google+. When I began reading The Faith of Demons , it was everything I expected it would be. Rick’s book is a prophetic book. Now before you get the wrong idea, I need to explain. Biblical prophets engaged in fore-telling and forth-telling. I don’t believe that Rick makes any effort to do the first but he does plenty of the second. As the prophets of old pointed their fingers at kings and said, “You are the man,” Rick does the same to his fellow evangelicals. There is a growing genre of books arising in evangelicalism that calls one’s fellows “on the carpet” regarding trends, fads and worse. Rick’s The Faith of Demons is the most recent one that I have seen. In this respect, I find agreement in much of what he questions, exposes and rebukes. For that, I thank him very much and pray that his tribe increases. On the negative side, I have a few things to add. The Faith of Demons is a lengthy book; too lengthy in my estimation. I love quotes, especially from Ch

The Russian Bear is Awake and Menacing -- Putin Takes off the Mask but is the West in Denial?

Update:  3/18/14:   Putin says he has no interest in the rest of Ukraine but stays defiant on Crimea My thought:  Let's hope he's telling the truth.  However, the damage may be done to the world.  Not only is Crimea lost to Russia (the annexation is nearly complete) but China may now be emboldened to go after disputed islands with Taiwan, North Korea with disputed islands with South Korea and on and on.  In a related matter,  Israel's defense chief says U.S. projecting weakness "We had thought it would be the United States that would lead the campaign against Iran," said Yaalon, who pointed to the Ukraine crisis as an example of Washington "showing weakness".  Yaalon said that although "people know Iran cheats", the United States and other nations chose to negotiate with Tehran on restricting activities they fear are aimed at developing atomic arms. "Therefore, on this matter, we have to behave as though we have nobody to look out
